It would be wrong to say that a new product is born, but a new name is surely born, which which is going to resound in the enterprise software market for a long long time. So yes! Microsoft Office 365 is born! And we were witness to it! It has widely been recognized by the market that Office 365 is nothing new from a product perspective, since it merely combines Microsoft BPOS with Office 365 and Office Professional Plus, both pre-existing products. But this release does announce Microsoft wholeheartedly embracing the cloud, and acknowledging that it indeed is the future of enterprise software. The keynote resounded with expressions like "the most ground breaking technology shift since the graphical user interface",or "a technology which allows small businesses to use the same technologies as enterprises". Considering the respect and attention Microsoft generates, this new release is great news for the entire cloud industry, including alternatives to SharePoint, and other Microsoft products. The enterprise market as a whole, will now consider cloud based software as a serious option to consider, especially if Microsoft says things like "the cloud offers upto 50% in cost savings!".
