Shane O'Neill of CIO wrote about an article about a study by Global 360, a document management company, on the challenges of deploying SharePoint. The study reveals some interesting insights about the successes and issues in implementing SharePoint in businesses. During the study, 886 individuals spread across industries, and primary from USA were interviewed. Some interesting findings are as follows:- - SharePoint use is hugely widespread, with 90% of the respondents using SharePoint, including 8% who are on SharePoint 2010. - Last year, a survey found that 47% of users were using SharePoint mainly for document sharing, but now it seems like companies are also employing other features of SharePoint. 67% have extended SharePoint's use to manage document workflows; 66% use it for portal and web content management; and 56% use it to support business processes. - SharePoint's out of the box features are not great for most users as only around 17% felt they were. 78% found them inadequate or somewhat adequate. It is on this count that many sharepoint alternatives position themselves as a better option for small businesses. - 30% felt building business applications with SharePoint was a time consuming process. This is time and resources that most small businesses can not spare. Check out the article here.
