Microsoft gets ready to upgrade BPOS with SharePoint 2010, Office Web Apps PDF Print E-mail

One of the disappointments for the paid users of Microsoft Online Services when MS launched Exchange and SharePoint 2010, and Office Web Apps; was that these features would not be available to BPOS users immediately. The backend for BPOS would continue to be the 2007 range of products by MS - SharePoint 2007, Exchange 2007 and so on. Users had been annoyed that the technology infrastructure did not allow cloud users to have access to latest Microsoft technologies. Moreover, they would also miss out on testing the much hyped Office Web Apps, which everyone was aching to get their hands on.

Microsoft had promised that BPOS would be upgraded to the latest MS range, and it seems like the time is finally here. Microsoft announced that a preview version of the upgraded BPOS would be available as soon as October 19th. Although it is unclear what a "preview" means, but it seems like the market as a whole may get glimpses of what the new BPOS looks like, but it wont be widely available to users right away, and they will have to wait for later this year, or early in 2011.
