HyperOffice Collaboration Software has often found place in this blog as a prominent "sharepoint alternative". It was recently reviewed by Edward Mendelson, a prominent reviewer from PC Mag.

Edward rated HyperOffice 3.5 or "good" in his review, and had many good things to say about it, along with a few minor complaints. According to him:-

Overall, I was deeply impressed by HyperOffice's depth of features, tight integration of all its elements, sleek appearance, and crack support team that was admirably responsive in both acknowledging the problems I discovered, and in many cases, fixing them almost as fast as I reported them.

His advice to users is that HyperOffice should be high on their list of collaboration software thanks to its low price and up to date UI. Edward sees HyperOffice as a "fully hosted to building your own SharePoint and Exchange servers".

At the same time, Edward has complaints about the news feed feature, where different time zones are displayed with each news item, as opposed to universal time zone. This glitch seems to have been corrected since then. Apart from that HyperOffice document manager does not have clear instructions around the fact that in order to collaborate on documents, you should ideally download their web folders feature.

Edward also suggests that users should make full use of the plentiful help resources and training videos in order to get full leverage out of the suite.
